Web / Graphic Designer

The Position:

The Web/Graphic Designer position will work alongside our Lead Designer and Creative Director to design everything from websites to UI/UX, and marketing graphics. Our web development and marketing teams, include other designers, developers, copy writers, and content strategists, executing on projects within defined scope and budget constraints.

We’re looking for someone who understands the functional nature of design work, who is thinking in terms of the needs of the client’s target audience and putting their goals at the center of the design process.

You’ll have a chance to work with a wide variety of clients, designing for their businesses and organizations, but always within our company’s function-first mantra: Design with Purpose.

What We Do:

We specialize in taking on our clients’ business goals and creating custom solutions, from design and copywriting to development. Clients come to us because they’ve tried the in-house or off the shelf solution and found it wanting. When they’re ready for a web presence that is purpose-built for their business needs, they come to us.

The Right Person for this Job:

  • Is strategically minded: Thinking not just about aesthetics, but about the client’s brand, the audience, their goals, and how this design facilitates those interactions.
  • Driven by Improvement: Excited to be on the cutting edge of contemporary design, and always exploring new industries and markets.
  • User Centric: Focused on designing UI/UX that is function-first, and responsive.
  • Asks for Help: Everyone here supports each other in their roles, sharing our expertise so that each of us gets the benefit of our cross-disciplinary team.

  • Experience designing themes for contemporary content-management systems, with an understanding of the interactive nature of web design, including navigation, UI/UX, user-paths, hover-states, on-click events, mobile responsiveness, etc…
  • Able to abstract a design and distinguish between the design of the theme and the design of the page layouts and content
  • Familiar with how designs translate into functional websites, so that mocks provided to developers set them up for success and on-budget delivery.
  • Familiarity with developing functional, flexible, graphic templates to be used by others in programs like PPT or on email marketing platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in a wide variety of different design deliverables, including websites, email, marketing materials, branding collateral and print.
  • Ability to seamlessly transition from client work in one industry to another, or across entire verticals including B2B, B2C, and non-profit work.
  • Comfortable working on projects with defined scope, budget, and timeline, in a fast-paced team environment.

Workflow Includes:

  • Working with clients from a conceptual stage to first come to a strategic understanding of the project’s audiences and goals
  • Wireframing end-to-end user-paths across a variety of design templates
  • Work with content-strategy team to piece together what content is required and where it fits into the puzzle
  • Developing refined mock designs in interactive tools to present to clients for feedback and review
  • Implement feedback in a collaborative fashion that responds to the concerns of the client while maintaining the integrity of the design
  • Participate in development hand-off meetings, adapting to developer’s concerns about how designs translate to functional development, and explaining the intent of designs for a successful handoff

  • 3-5+ years of experience doing client work across a variety of disciplines including interactive (web) design
  • Experienced in the full suite of Adobe products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, as well as interactive mocking tools such as AdobeXD.
  • Capable of holding your own in a client meeting: Communication skills are a must, including the discipline to maintain professionalism while listening, responding, and remaining proactive with suggestions/solutions
  • Comfortable working remotely with limited supervision and able to respond to constructively-critical feedback in a collaborative manner
  • Applicants must be able to provide a portfolio, including live site examples

We are a small, tight knit company designing and developing custom websites, and implementing content-marketing campaigns from brand positioning to the strategic deployment of creative deliverables.

Remote Position – Part-Time Contract:

We are looking for someone with experience contracting and comfortable with the pace of intermittent part-time work. As we have more hours there is the possibility of steady part-time or full-time employment, but this is not necessarily the desired end-goal. We want to make arrangements that are a good fit for our mutual needs and lifestyles.

Why Work Here:

We provide a flexible schedule and working arrangements. Full time remote work is something that we accommodated even before the pandemic, and it’s an arrangement that we’re very comfortable with.

We sincerely believe in work/life balance, and creating relationships both with clients and employees that are built for the long-term. While we want our hours to be flexible, we also don’t expect or pressure our team to work evenings or weekends. We don’t want you checking your email at night, we want you to come back refreshed and rested every day.

We are focused on providing an environment where employees are learning and growing everyday. Having a cross-disciplinary team and a wide range of clients and projects means there’s always something new to learn and opportunities to level up your professional skills and experience.

We value autonomy. We want each employee to have ownership over their work, and we want to get out of the way so you can focus on doing your best work.

We are a diverse, inclusive, workplace. All races, sexes, genders, and orientations are welcome.
